Teddy Bear Facts

Teddy Bears became popular during the 1890's but were not cuddly toys, just ornaments. The 'cuddle' elements came with the name 'Teddy'. In 1902 President Theodore Roosevelt (known as Teddy) went on a hunting expedition and refused to shoot a young bear. The first toy bears then appeared in the New York stores labeled 'Teddy' bears.
