FAQs

What is your reservation policy?

Reservations are guaranteed with a credit, debit card or deposit cheque.  We ask for a non refundable deposit of the first nights stay.   In the case of a group or family booking for more than one night the card holder will be responsible for the whole booking.

What is your cancellation policy:

Our cancellation policy is: £50 non returnable deposit to hold the room.
We need 7 days notice to cancel. the booking. Any time after that period we would retain 50% of the balance outstanding. We would naturally try to re sell the room in which case we would you pay you back. We always suggest our guests take out holiday insurance.

What are your check in times?

Check in is between 4pm and 6pm and after 5pm on Sundays. 

When should we depart?

Guests are requested to depart before 10am.  We can arrange to store luggage for you if you have travelled by train or bus but cars must also vacate the premises.

Do you provide car parking?

We have parking in a driveway for about 6 cars.  We ask you to leave a spare car key with is in case of an emergency.

What kind of breakfast do you serve?

Our Full Yorkshire breakfast is cooked to order on the Aga and most ingredients are purchased at our local farm shops.  Most diets can be catered for with prior warning.

Do you cater for children?

Children are always welcome - in fact, we even have a special room just for them, called the children's room.  However, never leave your child unattended in the rooms and make sure they are supervised in the bathrooms and on the stairs.

Do you allow pets?

As we have dogs ourselves we are unfortunately only able to accommodate guide or hearing dogs.

What is your smoking policy?

As per the Government guidelines it is an offence to smoke in public so our premises and driveway are a smoke free area.  You may be charged £50 from your card for cleaning if have been smoking in our bedrooms

What equipment do you provide?

We provide a high chair and travel cot for babies and can also hire out a pushchair and wheel chair by prior request. 

Can we get discounts from staying with you?

Some of our local shops and restaurant have kindly offered discounts to our guests, ask for the list on arrival.

Do you have a loyalty scheme?

As a thank you when you leave we give you a voucher for you next stay

Do you offer gift vouchers?

We can provide gift vouchers towards a visit to Monkgate Guest House for you to give as Birthday or Christmas presents.

Do we need to take out insurance?

We strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance.  This can be obtained reasonably from the post office or you can phone UK Plus on 08452303526

What time do we have to return by at nightfall?

We lock the front door at 10pm but give you a key for the side door if you wish to stay our later.

What are your fire regulations?

We have recently installed a new fire alarm system so pleases make yourselves aware of our instructions on your arrival.  You will find this information in your rooms.

Teddy Facts
Teddy Bear Facts
Some Teddies are working bears and earn their keep!! Teddy Bears work with children in hospitals to help children cope and also to help children with disabilities. They also help children to explain things easier to the Police or in difficult family situations. Some work as Charity Teddy Bears i.e. Pudsy for the BBC or as sports mascots and some very old Teddy Bears did their bit during the Blitz in WW11.
